Cyrus Leland family collection, circa 1881 - 1967.

The collection consists of documents related to Leland's legal practice and the Nicholson Title Insurance Company, including court records, correspondence, forms, deeds and other legal instruments, etc. There are also income tax records and other documents relating to the Leland and Douglas partnership, and records from the Nicholson Title Insurance Company before the Lelands bought it in the early 1950s. Also in the collection are family papers, including from the donor's grandfather, Cyrus Leland, Jr., and from the donor's sister, Florence Leland Douglas. The family papers include letters and cards to and from various Leland family members, personal financial and tax papers, diplomas, records from the Department of the Interior concerning being a pension agent, materials from the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), some of P. Leland Soper's papers from being an attorney in Indian territory, and other family records and materials.

Cyrus Leland was born in Troy, Doniphan County, Kansas on 12 April 1910. He earned his law degree from Washburn College in Topeka in 1932 and joined the United States Army in 1939. He reached the rank of captain by the time he was discharged in 1943 due to a back injury, and he served in the Aleutian Islands. After the war, Leland moved around the country, from Arizona and Texas to Oregon, working with various insurance companies. He married Alice Clark in Texas, and they moved to Olathe, Kansas...
